Who We Are

Who We Are

Mission

Youth Services for Oklahoma County, Inc. is a nonprofit community organization that advocates, educates, intervenes and counsels youth and families to make a positive difference in their lives.

"Changing Young Lives" is at the core of all we do.

History

Established in 1972 by a group of visionary leaders, YSOC continues to positively impact the lives of thousands of children and families in Oklahoma County each year. YSOC provides professional counseling and a variety of innovative behavioral and educational services to meet the specific needs of young people. Our services are designed to foster self-esteem and resiliency, preserve and enrich family life, and instill a sense of community in a child, family and the community-at-large.

Our Beliefs

We believe…

  • In protecting and enhancing the value of vulnerable youth in our community.
  • In youth empowerment – helping youth discover their strengths, talents and understand their value.
  • Successful programs require the involvement and buy-in of the youth we serve from planning to realization.
  • Youth thrive when positive change is achieved in the family and a family’s strengths are realized.
  • In healthy, positive alternatives for all youth – young people can and will make informed choices concerning their own health and future.
  • In the power of partnerships - striving together to create innovative community resources to ensure all young people are given the opportunity to thrive.
  • Each person is unique and important – we value, encourage and celebrate the diversity of individuals.

Volunteer/Intern:

Volunteers are vital to our organization. They are instrumental in helping us meet the needs of the teens in our community. If you are interested in Changing Young Lives, please consider becoming a volunteer for YSOC! We need volunteers in many different areas, which include:

  • An administrative whiz? Consider donating your time to help with administrative tasks like data entry
  • Are you a local chef or cook? Volunteer to lead a cooking class at Café 29, YSOC’s teaching kitchen
  • Motivated go-getter? Organize a fundraising event at your office, school, scout troop, civic group or place of worship to help collect donations that support our mission
  • Like to plan parties? Serve on our fundraising event planning committee

Want to volunteer, but don’t have a lot of time? Here are few things you can do to help:

  • Like us on Facebook
  • Share our posts on your social media
  • Out grocery shopping? Purchase a few items from our pantry wish list which include microwaveable meals, hygiene items, khaki's and red or blue polo shirts in all men and women sizes
  • Be a volunteer for special events

Teen Service Board

Teen Service BoardTeens Helping Teens

Youth Services for Oklahoma County's Teen Service Board (TSB) gives Oklahoma County high school students an opportunity to help other teens in need while earning community service hours. TSB members play an important part in their community through fun projects which benefit the agency’s mission. Members develop valuable workplace ethics and business skills, as well as compassion, empathy and expanded social perspectives.

Past TSB projects include conducting back-to-school supplies drive, holding telethons to raise money for holiday gifts for homeless teens, assembling food baskets for students who have no parental support, and helping with the annual fundraiser by hosting a bowling tournament, making decorations, gathering auction items, and assisting with the event.
